After graduating from University in Calgary with a PhD degree in Bituminous Materials, in 2009 Pavel joined ExxonMobil affiliate Imperial Oil in Sarnia, Canada, where he worked in the company’s Research Department.
I am honoured to have been elected Eurobitume President at such an interesting and exciting time for the organisation.
He took over leadership of the asphalt laboratory team in 2013 and was responsible for a wide range of activities, including conducting R&D, safe laboratory operation and people development.
In 2017, he became a technical leader for Americas ExxonMobil asphalt business, where he managed a team responsible for providing comprehensive technical support to the company’s asphalt business – from crude oil assessment and refining to customer support and industry advocacy. In 2021 Pavel relocated to Prague to take up the role of Asphalt Principal Engineer at ExxonMobil, providing senior expertise and mentorship to the global asphalt team.
During my 12-month tenure, my priorities include ensuring Eurobitume continues to meet the needs of its members, effectively implementing the new internal structure and supporting the delivery of the eagerly awaited 8th E&E Congress, which will take place in Budapest in June 2024.
Pavel has held a number of roles at the Asphalt Institute, the international trade association of petroleum asphalt producers, manufacturers and affiliated businesses. Most recently (2019 – 2022) he chaired the Technical Advisory Committee. He is an international representative at the AKM10 committee within Transportation Research Board and is Director-at-Large at the International Society for Asphalt Pavements. Over the years he has authored over 30 technical papers and several patents.
Pavel joined the Eurobitume Board of Directors in 2021 and has been an active member of the vision & strategy review task force and the AI/EB leadership group. He was Vice President of Eurobitume for one year prior to his election as President, and has presented technical papers, including podium presentations, at E&E Congresses in 2012, 2016 and 2020.
