Eurobitume at the Asphalt Institute Spring meeting in the USA
Director General Hervé Millet was a guest at the recent 2026 Spring Meeting of Eurobitume’s long-standing partner, the Asphalt Institute (AI), which took place in Phoenix, Arizona, from 20th to 23rd April. The event was attended by more than 300 people from AI member companies, asphalt producers, additive suppliers and road pavement and roofing contractors from across North America.

In addition to sharing top-line details on current Eurobitume activities with the AI’s Executive Committee, Hervé attended various AI committee meetings and heard updates and discussions on the work these committees are undertaking. In particular, the AI’s HSE Committee is addressing the possible local consequences for roofing companies of the future new European classification of severely oxidised asphalt. Meanwhile, several projects being worked on by the Technical Committee are aimed at giving bitumen users a better understanding of product specifications and properties.
Looking ahead
Like Eurobitume, AI is also focussed upon addressing future challenges faced by the bitumen industry.
In addition to reflecting on the future technical research needs of our industry, addressing its human needs is also key. Helping develop the industry leaders of tomorrow is the focus of AI’s EPIC Leadership Program, an exclusive 10-month, MBA-style immersive learning experience. During the EPIC seminar and graduation ceremony, Hervé heard the newly graduated class present its views on how to bridge the generational gap within our industry.Â
As in Europe, developing the place of women in our industry is also an objective in North America. Hervé learnt more about the mentorship and scholarship initiatives instigated by the Women of Asphalt group, which is working to empower women working in our industry across the United States.
