Autumn Meeting and Sustainability Seminar
Eurobitume members’ recent General Meeting (GM) and sustainability-themed seminar took place in Brussels on 15-16th October.

Committee and Steering Group highlights
Eurobitume Director General Hervé Millet opened the event and welcomed members and invited guests.
Chairs of Eurobitume’s committees (HSE, Public Relations and Communications and Technical), the Safe Handling Sub-Committee and the Bitumen Sustainability Steering Group all provided informative overviews of their activities.
These overviews were followed by a presentation of the new Committee Operating Guidelines which are planned to be implemented from early next year.
Introduction of new members and Asphalt Institute report
Representatives of PEAB Asfalt and Schenk UK, both of which recently became Associate Members of Eurobitume, introduced their companies to the attendees and shared their motivations for joining the association.
Reed Ryan, President of the Asphalt Institute (AI), Eurobitume’s long-standing collaborating partner organisation in the United States, then highlighted the great value of bitumen for our society and summarised key projects that AI is currently working on.
Update on next year’s 3rd E&E event
Attendeeswere updated onthe positive progress being made for the 2026 E&E Event and encouraged to not only put the dates and venue – 11-12th June 2026 in Vienna, Austria – into their diaries, but also to subscribe to the E&E Event newsletter online, by completing the short registration form on the E&E Event Home Page.
Carl Robertus Award
Former Eurobitume President Siobhan McKelvey was the inaugural winner of this special award, which was presented to her by Eurobitume President Fabrice Blanc. For full details see the separate Inaugural winner of Carl Robertus Award’ News Item.
Closing words and Dinner Reception
At the end of proceedings, Fabrice Blanc concluded the meeting by encouraging participants to continue to bring their expertise and commitment to make Eurobitume ever more solid, visible and influential.
Autumn Seminar
On 16th October, Eurobitume Director General Hervé Millet opened the sustainability-themed seminar, which included the following presentations:
- ‘Towards a more sustainable European Road Network (from an infrastructure point of view)’ – Christophe Nicodeme, Director General of the European Road Federation
- ‘Sustainability initiatives of EAPA’ – Breixo Gomez Meijide, EAPA Technical Director
- ‘Sustainable production of aggregates’ – Dirke Fincke, Secretary General at Aggregates Europe
- ‘Sustainability in Construction Product Regulation’ – Anja Sörensen, Eurobitume HSE Lead, and Brice Delaporte, Eurobitume Sustainability Lead.
The seminar concluded with a lively ‘Sustainability opportunities & challenges throughout the bitumen value-chain’ round table, which comprised Christophe Nicodeme, Breixo Gomez, Dirke Fincke and Eurobitume Sustainability Lead Brice Delaporte.
