E&E Event 2026 highlights innovation, collaboration and the future of the asphalt and bitumen sector

The 3rd E&E Event, held in Vienna from 11–12 June 2026, brought together almost 400 participants and exhibitors from the asphalt and bitumen sector for two days of high-level presentations and exchanges, networking and industry promotion.

A key highlight was Eurobitume’s contribution to the session on decarbonisation, with Brice Delaporte presenting Eurobitume’s roadmap for decarbonising bitumen production in Europe. The presentation marked the public release of the report and underlined the importance of a credible pathway and coordinated action to support the transition towards more sustainable road infrastructure.

Eurobitume’s expertise was also clearly demonstrated during the session on managing safe sites, with a particular focus on emissions. Ian Lancaster shared the latest academic research, which shows that emissions from asphalt pavements in use are very low, and contributed to an important discussion on responsible industry practice.

Both Eurobitume presentations showed the bitumen industry’s commitment to safety, health and environmental performance.

Public road authorities were also strongly represented in the events programme. Fredy Sierra and Miriam Frosi from Rijkswaterstaat shared the Dutch road administration’s perspective on alliance-building, innovation, and the need to support sustainability in road construction. Their contribution, together with Spanish road authority perspectives in the programme, reinforced the importance of close cooperation between industry and public stakeholders.

The programme also gave strong visibility to initiatives that are helping to shape the future of the industry. Women in Asphalt Europe was presented for the first time, marking an important milestone for the sector and creating a new platform to promote diversity, visibility and connection across the European asphalt community. The Young Paving Talent Spanish initiative also highlighted the importance of attracting and supporting the next generation of professionals, with a clear message on the value of talent, skills and international cooperation.

In addition to the conference sessions, the exhibition area gave companies and organisations the opportunity to present their solutions, strengthen their visibility and connect directly with participants throughout the event.

The E&E Event 2026 also created valuable opportunities for informal exchange during lunches and coffee breaks, as well as at social events, with the networking dinner at the Weltmuseum as a highlight that brought participants together in a unique setting and strengthened connections across the asphalt and bitumen community.

The success of the E&E Event 2026 confirmed the sector’s strength and its shared commitment to sustainability and collaboration. With the momentum created in Vienna, attention now turns to the next major milestone: the E&E Congress 2028, to be held in Madrid from 10–12 May 2028.
