Eurobitume publishes new Guidance on Ground-Based Operations
Eurobitume is pleased to announce the publication of its new Guidance on Ground-Based Operations which is available on the Eurobitume publication section website.

The document sets out clear, practical recommendations for conducting bitumen deliveries from ground level as preferred operation mode. This approach reduces risks associated with working at height, or exposure to fumes from hot bitumen, improving safety for all handling bitumen.
Developed from the consolidated experience of Eurobitume members, the guidance aligns with current best practice while remaining practical for a wide range of site configurations and operating contexts. The aim is a resource that is truly useful on the ground, not just on paper. By providing clear, harmonised recommendations, it supports safer, more consistent practice across the industry and advances Eurobitume’s broader mission to promote operational safety.
The publication also references Eurobitume’s wider library of safety guidance including the Safe Loading and Safe Delivery of Bitumen Guidance, the Emergency Safety Shower Guidance, the Bitumen Burns Card, and the H₂S Safety Materials. Together, these documents form a comprehensive set of resources supporting continuous improvement in the safe handling of bitumen across Europe.
The Guidance on Ground-Based Operations is available in different language versions. Organisations are encouraged to distribute the document to relevant teams—HSE managers, site operators, contractors and drivers—and to incorporate the recommendations into local procedures, training and site inductions, considering any adjustments to equipment or processes that may be required to enable safe working from the ground.
