Eurobitume shares expert insights at international conference in Hungary
Eurobitume’s HSE Lead, Dr Anja Sörensen, delivered two presentations on bitumen sustainability and evolving European product standards at the Hungarian Asphalt Pavement Association’s (HAPA) XXVI International Conference, held on 17–18 February 2026 in Siófok, Hungary.

Addressing an international audience of over 200 participants—including asphalt industry professionals, representatives of public road authorities, researchers, and academics—Dr Sörensen presented Eurobitume’s perspective on current sustainability developments and outlined the implications of new European regulatory frameworks for the sector.
Eurobitume LCA 4.0 Report
Anja advised the audience to use Eurobitume’s latest bitumen life cycle assessment (LCA) report, Eurobitume LCA Report 4.0 (2025) to calculate the environmental impact of manufactured products that incorporate bitumen.
She also underlined that because Eurobitume LCA 4.0 was developed using methodology outlined by ISO 14040 and 14044 and is compatible with most commercial LCA software, LCA practitioners can incorporate its data as part of a comprehensive construction product life cycle assessment. In addition, Eurobitume LCA Report 4.0 is compatible with the European Standard EN15804+A2and can be used as an industry reference document in standardisation work aiming to develop Complementary Product Category Rules for bitumen.
Finally, Anja promoted the Eurobitume educational webinar, with subtitles in various European languages, which helps people make the make the most of Eurobitume LCA Report 4.0 – the webinar can be downloaded here.
On the way to new European product standards
European product standards and specifications play a key role within the bitumen market by providing a unified language for producers, contractors and regulators, harmonising quality requirements, ensuring product performance and eliminating potential technical barriers to trade across the European Union. In line with these developments, Anja explained the start of the CPR Technical Acquis Process on Road Construction Products (SG23) earlier this year and reviewed the projected timeline for the related standardisation request.
