Eurobitume provides expert input at PIARC Conference

At PIARC’s (World Road Association) recent (7-9 May) international conference on global strategies for infrastructure and road, titled ‘Decarbonising the road sector’, Eurobitume provided expert input about the sustainability of bitumen and how to accurately calculate the environmental impact of manufactured products that incorporate bitumen using the new Eurobitume Bitumen Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Report 4.0.

More than 150 people in Vienna and online heard Eurobitume Sustainability Lead Dr Brice Delaporte explain that Eurobitume LCA 4.0 was developed using methodology outlined by ISO 14040 and 14044 and is representative of bitumen production in the EU and the UK.

Eurobitume LCA 4.0 can be downloaded here and incorporates publicly available data sources. It was carefully reviewed by an external expert and the complete dataset is available in ILCD (international Life Cycle Data system) format, so LCA practitioners can use it to conduct life cycle studies on products containing bitumen.

The outputs are compatible with the European Standard EN15804+A2, making the report suitable for use in future EPDs for construction products.

Eurobitume LCA Report 4.0 data is compatible with commercial LCI software, enabling LCI practitioners to easily incorporate this data as part of a construction product life cycle assessment.

To help people make the make the most of Eurobitume LCA Report 4.0, a webinar can be downloaded from the EDUCATION AND TRAINING / Webinars page of the Eurobitume website.

Information about the sustainability of bitumen is available from the Eurobitume website here.
