Eurobitume provides expert input into Sharing Best Practice event for UK stakeholders
Eurobitume Technical Lead and focal person for UK Dr Ian Lancaster provided expert input at this year’s innovation-themed Sharing Best Practice online event for UK stakeholders, which looked at materials and technologies that can ensure local roads are fit for a low carbon future.
Held on 19th November and organised by the Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA), a partnership between Eurobitume and the Mineral Products Association (MPA), Sharing Best Practice 2024 attracted a record number of online delegates from 115 local authorities across England, Wales and Scotland.
Eurobitume’s Ian Lancaster, in conjunction with Simon Shearwood from Norfolk County Council, spoke about the Evolution of bitumen innovation and how these innovations can be used to prolong the life of asphalt pavements.
Topics covered in the other presentations, where industry experts and local authority representatives shared their experiences and successes, included:
- Addressing the net zero disconnect
- Sustainable asphalt
- Low carbon highways – moving from strategy to implementation
- Innovation in asphalt manufacturing and laying
- Advancing lower carbon roads
Ian was also one of the experts in a lively panel discussion chaired by AIA Chair David Giles, about the barriers to adopting innovation and how the supply chain can work together to overcome them, and build a resilient, low carbon network.
