Eurobitume input at international conference on sustainable materials and structures
Eurobitume once again provided expert input at the recent RILEM (International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures) Spring Convention & Conference on durability of building materials and systems in the transportation infrastructure, held at the Institute of Materials & Construction in Mendrisio, Switzerland, on 23rd – 28th March.

With paper co-authors Maria Gonzalez Gonzalez (MOEVE) and Daria Sediki (Rosneft Deutschland). Eurobitume Technical Lead Dr Ian Lancaster presented a paper detailing Eurobitume’s position on test methods and characteristics for future specifications.
Also submitted as a poster, the paper deals with the roadmap to future specifications based on performance-related test methods, such as rheology (DSR, BBR). It also suggests that to fully characterise the binder, both short- and long-term aging should be considered.
Ian also chaired the Road Pavements and Maintenance technical session, which featured papers on health monitoring, circularity and rheology.
Other issues of common interest at the conference included the importance of durability in carbon reduction and the contribution of sustainable materials to net zero infrastructure.
