Spotlight on Eurobitume LCA Report 4.0 at international conference in Croatia
On the second day (9th May) of the sustainability and innovation-themed 9th International Croatian Asphalt Pavement Conference in Opatija, Croatia, former Eurobitume President Markus Spiegl (OMV) explained how Eurobitume’s latest bitumen life cycle assessment (LCA) report, Eurobitume LCA Report 4.0 (2025), can be used to calculate the environmental impact of manufactured products that incorporate bitumen.

More than 400 engineers, researchers and decision-makers from across Europe attended this important conference, which also included a mix of interesting presentations about warm mix asphalt, EAPA’s decarbonisation road map for asphalt, recycling, the reconstruction of country roads and the increasing influence of green transition.
In his presentation Markus explained that Eurobitume LCA 4.0 was developed using methodology outlined by ISO 14040 and 14044, is representative of bitumen production in the EU and is compatible with commercial LCI software. This enables LCI practitioners to easily incorporate this data as part of a construction product life cycle assessment.
With outputs compatible with European Standard EN15804+A2, Eurobitume LCA Report 4.0 is also suitable for use in future EPDs for construction products and can be downloaded from the Eurobitume website by clicking here.
The complete dataset is available in ILCD (international Life Cycle Data system) format, so LCA practitioners can use it to conduct life cycle studies on products containing bitumen.
Eurobitume has created a webinar to help people make the make the most of Eurobitume LCA Report 4.0 and this be downloaded from the EDUCATION AND TRAINING / Webinars page of the Eurobitume website.
Eurobitume’s website also contains more general information about the sustainability of bitumen and this is available here.
