Eurobitume presents its Decarbonisation Roadmap for Bitumen at RoadLCA 2026

Eurobitume’s Sustainability Lead, Dr Brice Delaporte, presented the association’s Decarbonisation Roadmap for Bitumen on 30 September at RoadLCA 2026 in Palermo, Italy. His presentation brought the European bitumen industry’s perspective to discussions on sustainable road infrastructure.
The seventh International Symposium on Pavement and Bridge Life-Cycle Assessment took place from 30 September to 2 October and brought together over 210 participants. Hosted by the University of Palermo, the event provided a forum for researchers, industry representatives and public authorities to explore how life-cycle assessment (LCA) can support more informed infrastructure decisions.
Brice introduced the opportunities and pathway identified by Eurobitume to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with bitumen production in Europe. His contribution provided an opportunity to share the association’s sustainability work with the wider research community and engage with experts working on the environmental assessment of roads and construction materials.
The programme covered a broad range of topics, including decarbonisation, circularity, environmental product declarations, innovative binders and the influence of pavement maintenance and service life on environmental performance. These discussions reflected the importance of considering materials within the wider life cycle of road infrastructure.
Eurobitume’s participation supports continued dialogue between industry and academia, helping connect scientific research with the practical challenges of improving the sustainability of Europe’s road infrastructure. Sharing the roadmap in this setting contributed to the exchange of knowledge on decarbonisation and the role of bitumen within the wider road sector.
